OXAC’s Riley Bryce took home the title of Victorian Mile Champion after a savvy race at the Vic Milers’ Club meet on February 6. He bided his time sitting in the pack for the first 1,000m, always ensuring he was able to cover any moves at the front of the pack. Approaching 200m to go, Riley moved up along the back straight to be a serious contender.
Running off the front in the final 250m Luke Burrows from WA surged and made the rest of the field have to work to close the gap on him. In the last 100m Riley was positioned well on the outside of lane 1 into lane 2 ensuring he was not going to be boxed in on the burn up that ensued. Luke stayed clear but had the pack closing on him while Riley and Daniel Willams from NSW fought it out to the line with a lunge to sort out placings. Daniel just edged out Riley for second; however Riley in 3rd outright was first Victorian over the line and therefore took the Victorian Men’s Mile title. Congratulations Riley.
