Successful AVSL Season Sees OXAC Finish Third

By Dave Martini

It has been a successful Summer Season for Old Xaverians’ in AVSL competition. After promotion to AVSL Division 4 in 2023, our second season in Division 4 has seen the continued resurgence of track & field for the Club.  After finishing 5th in Division 4 standings last season, our summer athletes burnt up the track and dominated in the field during AVSL competition on our way to finishing 3rd in Division 4 standings. We were tied on premiership points with Corio Athletics Club, narrowly missing a promotion spot to Division 3 on count-back.

The Season was highlighted by Old Xavs’ winning Round 3 and Round 10 of competition and accented by outstanding performances on the track with Club star Laurie Tod setting a number of new Men’s AMB(T20) Club Records in 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, Mile and 3,000m. Our masters athletes continue to dominate, led by Christine Williams who completed in all Rounds of AVSL competition over the summer both on the track and in the field.

Along with AVSL competition our track athletes also regularly competed in Victorial Milers Club meets over the Summer. We also had five relay teams compete in the Victorian T&F Relay Championships where Old Xavs’ picked up 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze State Medals, along with a new 4x400m Mixed AMB(T20) Club Record.

Looking to continue to build on the success of the 2024-2025 Summer Season, Old Xaverians’ will again compete in AVSL Division 4 next season. As we continue the resurgence of track & field within the Club you are invited to join the Summer Team and get involved in a fun, friendly and inclusive team that welcomes all ages and abilities.
